أعرب السفير الأمريكي لدى السودان جون جودفري، عن امتنانه للمناقشة المتعمقة التي أجراها الأربعاء، مع مجموعة وصفها بـ “الرائعة” من النساء السودانيات، اللاتي تفرقهن الجغرافيا ولكنهن متحدات في الهدف بشأن مستقبل السودان، وفق قوله.
وأكد جودفري، في تغريدة له عبر حسابه الشخصي بموقع “إكس”، أن النساء السودانيات يقدمن مساهمة قوية في الجهود الرامية إلى وقف القتال وتقديم المساعدة للمتضررين منه، وقد رفعوا أصواتهن للفت الانتباه إلى الأولويات الملحة للمرأة السودانية.
وأشار إلى توصياتهن بشأن أجندة السودان في مرحلة ما بعد الصراع، كانت ضرورة أن تلعب المرأة دورًا مباشرًا في تشكيل هذه الأجندة.
The US Ambassador to Sudan, John Godfrey, expressed his gratitude for the in-depth discussion he had on Wednesday with a “wonderful” group of Sudanese women, who are separated by geography but united in purpose over the future of Sudan, he said.
Godfrey confirmed, in a tweet to him via his personal account on the “X” website, that Sudanese women make a strong contribution to efforts to stop the fighting and provide assistance to those affected by it, and they raised their voices to draw attention to the urgent priorities of Sudanese women.
He referred to their recommendations regarding Sudan’s agenda in the post-conflict phase, which was the need for women to play a direct role in shaping this agenda.
وأشاد السفير الأمريكي بجرأة المرأة السودانية قائلًا: “أشيد بالنساء العاملات من أجل بناء مستقبل كريم لجميع السودانيين”.
وكان جودفري عاد في السادس من أغسطس إلى الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية بعد زيارة إلى القاهرة اجتمع خلالها مع قوى مدنية سودانية لتشكيل جبهة موسعة مناهضة للحرب.
ونقلت وسائل إعلام سودانية عن مصادر دبلوماسية حينها، أن عودة السفير الأمريكي إلى واشنطن تشعرهم بخيبة أمل حول مستقبل المفاوضات في جدة بين الجيش والدعم السريع، وعما إذا كانت ستستأنف قريبًا.
وأوضحت المصادر ذاتها، أنه على الرغم من وجود “تفاهمات قوية” في منبر جدة بين طرفي النزاع يمكن البناء عليها لعملية وقف إطلاق نار طويل الأمد، لكن التفاصيل الخلافية كبيرة لتمترس كل طرف بموقفه.
The US ambassador praised the boldness of the Sudanese women, saying: “I pay tribute to the women working to build a dignified future for all Sudanese.”
Godfrey returned on the sixth of August to the United States of America after a visit to Cairo, during which he met with Sudanese civil forces to form an expanded front against the war.
Sudanese media quoted diplomatic sources at the time as saying that the return of the US ambassador to Washington made them feel disappointed about the future of negotiations in Jeddah between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, and whether they would resume soon.
The same sources indicated that despite the existence of “strong understandings” in the Jeddah forum between the two parties to the conflict that can be built upon for a long-term ceasefire, the controversial details are great, so that each side entrenches its position.
